Beloved friend, and longtime mureed, Surya Beverly Gedvilas died yesterday on All Soul’s Day. My heart aches at her leaving, yet she seemed ready. Surya’s delight in art – whether it was in a book, a piece of music, or the scent a rose – didn’t diminish, even while her physical strength did. She never suffered fools gladly and that also didn’t change! Her brilliance, sense of humor, and love of zikr will be cherished and missed. Big thanks to all her friends who visited, brought food, sang, danced, and kibbitzed with her at La Posada and Kindred. May her memory be a blessing.
