OBITUARY
It is with great sadness that we announce Dr. Barbara Lynn Keeping, 83, of Rowlett, Texas peacefully passed away at her home on August 6, 2023 after a courageous 8 month battle with dementia. After the onset of dementia, Barbara fell in her home breaking her hip. She underwent two surgeries to repair her hip and recovered in a nursing home in Rowlett, Texas. In June 2023, she was able to come home confined to a hospital bed in the living room looking out her favorite window to the lake, birds, and animals where she was cared for around the clock by her closest friend and caregiver, Donna “DK” Lowe.
Barbara was born on December 19, 1939 in Wills Point, Texas. Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse for Dallas Baylor which kicked off her real passion in life of becoming a very well-known Dallas Psychologist and ultimately opening her own practice in Dallas. Barbara and Jim Keeping were married 32 years until Jim’s passing in 1990. They went on to have 2 children, Keith Eugene Keeping and Scott Thomas Keeping. Barbara and Jim found enjoyment in life by taking barefoot cruises to the Caribbean and beyond.
Her favorite musician was Jimmy Buffett, in which she had all of his albums. She used to say her tombstone would read, “Don’t miss me because I didn’t miss a thing.” Barbara was predeceased by her Father and Mother, Othe and Hazel Furrh Martin, her husband, Jim Keeping, her son, Scott Thomas Keeping and her brother, James Lee Martin.
She is survived by her son, Keith Eugene Keeping, her daughter in law Tricia Garcia-Keeping, her sister and one of her closest friends, Judy Martin Raiburn, her grandchildren Christopher, Rachel, and Montana and many great grandchildren, and her best friend of 35 years and later caregiver, Donna “DK” Lowe. Barbara touched so many people’s lives there are too many to name here, but you all know who you are. Barbara was an extraordinarily wise woman and loved her family and many friends unconditionally. She positively impacted thousands of people and clients lives. She was exceptionally curious and always young at heart saying she never felt her age. The family wants to extend their sincere thanks to all the personnel of Valley Hospice for the tender care and comfort they provided to “Dr. B.” A Celebration of Life will be held at Winfrey Point White Rock Lake on August 18, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00pm.
