Nur-un-Nisa Ruth Von Goertz

Birthdate: February 19, 1926 URS: March 22, 2024

Graduating from the University of Washington, Ruth went on to teach high school social studies in the San Francisco East Bay Area.

She had a powerful curiosity and traveled the world extensively. Her home was adorned with beautiful things she brought home from her travels. She also cultivated many friendships abroad and maintained some of these friends for years. A deep spiritual sense was at the core of her being, taking her to India, South America and on meditation retreats.

Ruth supported countless organizations. Women’s rights, food insecurity, human rights, those who were less fortunate, and war protests were among the things she was passionate about.

Countless friends in the Bay Area will always remember her indomitable spirit that will be carried on by her three children; David Faulkner (Carol Mather) of Bellingham, WA, Tune Faulkner (Greg McNally) of Wheelock, VT, and Dean Faulkner (Laurie Morrison) of Kamas, UT. Her nine grandchildren; Ian Smith (Michelle) of Anchorage, AK, Jim Faulkner of Ann Arbor, MI, Nick Faulkner (Michelle Hoon) of Salt Lake City, UT, Zeb Smith (Camette) of Newark, VT, Julianna Faulkner of Park City, UT, Silas Smith (Alex Dachos) of Richmond, VT, Christian Faulkner (Caitlin) of Salt Lake City, UT, Alena Faulkner (Donavan Christensen) of Portland, OR, Adler Faulkner (Lucy Tekosky) of Brooklyn, NY and six great grandchildren; Emmalyn, Elianna, Toren, Jovie, Iris and Cora.

She was preceded in death by her sister Alice Hall, her parents Erna von Goertz native of Denmark and Oivind von Goertz, native of Norway; husbands- John M. Faulkner, Harold Davis, and companions, Bill Gehres and George Martin.
