URS date: June 16, 2017
On Friday afternoon (June 16), Sylvia Middlebrooks passed to her Beloved. She had been diagnosed with brain cancer a year and a half ago. Through three brain surgeries and, near the end, considerable disability, she carried on with her usual beauty and grace. She died at home with husband John and daughters Zoe and Malika beside her. To the end, she appeared to be in peace and free of suffering. She will have a green (i.e., eco-friendly) burial on the edge of Joshua Tree National Park in a small family ceremony followed by a memorial service at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Santa Ana at a date to be announced.
Sylvia (and John) introduced us to the Dances of Universal Peace in the 1990s in Gainesville, Florida. As a result, we attended camps at Mendocino and the Ozarks, and had many joyful times together. Majid Sylvia had a deep kindness and light sense of humor and she will be missed dearly!
