Birthdate:  July 29, 1950      URS date:  February 18, 2016

Obituary

Dennis Port – Janice Wixon, 65, of Dennis Port, died suddenly in Ashland, OR on Feb. 18 while she was visiting her sister, Kathy.

Jan was born on July 29, 1950 at Cape Cod Hospital to Jean (Arnts) Wixon of Pennsylvania and Stuart Wixon of Dennisport, both of whom predeceased her. She attended Ezra H. Baker, D-Y Regional High School, and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, gaining a degree in education. She later went on to get a Master’s degree as a reading specialist. She taught in Iowa, Oregon, and was currently employed at Station Avenue Elementary School in South Yarmouth. Jan had moved back to the Cape about three years ago from Oregon to help care for her mother, Jean, who died last August.

She enjoyed the beach, traveling, and trying new things. She was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) which fosters the higher education of women through scholarships, grants, and loans, an organization her mother had belonged to for many years. Tax deductible donations in her name can be made to this organization at P.E.O. International, c/o Karen Whiting Chapter AS, 62 Polaris Dr. Mashpee, MA 02649.

Jan is survived by her sister Kathy (Abe Genack) of Ashland, OR and their two children, Jenna and Jake, and her brother Scott (Karen Bernard) and their three children, Alexandra, Cydney, and Nathaniel of New York.

Jan will be greatly missed by her family and friends for her gentle nature, depth of compassion and kindness.

One Memory for “Arunanda Jan Wixon”

I’ll never forget Jan’s sweetness, and her giggle. She was so loving and so much fun, too. I remember skit night at one of our retreats, I think Jan and I did a skit together mocking the self-preservation side of ourselves. We both had a lot of that in us, always bringing snacks and water to group meetings. She was incredibly present emotionally, and with that warm unconditional love she exuded, I always appreciated having her attention.
I feel blessed to have known you, Jan, and so very sad you’re gone. I send you great love wherever you are!
