Inayat (aka Aurulius) was a king, with a Louisiana accent, giving, considerate, humorous, alive. I first met him at a Pir Vilayat event in Tucson, and then over the years I went to his Aziza Scott retreats that he organized at Chicot State Park and at his home in Opellousas. We were able to park our son Daniel Nuri with his daughter’s houses where other children were available. His 2 more recent daughters were a joy, as was their mother, and we all became longtime fast friends. I can feel his presence, smile and power right now. What a blessing he was, and a great support to the work of the message.
It is a blessing to be able to count Inayat as a friend and companion on the path. His stories made us laugh and his being drew our hearts to be near him. May the Blessings of God rest upon him.
Inayat is a faithful mureed of Pir Vilayat. I remember vividly how Pir Vilayat used to tell the story of the seeker who asked questions of a dervish, who after some time, not having given any answers, declared: “I am the Answer to your question.”
Inayat has now met that Being who is the Answer to his questions, may we all guard his Secret. As a father Inayat struggled to provide for and protect his family and became stronger as he grew on the spiritual path in his ability to manifest love for those entrusted to him. The generosity of God manifesting through him is the true measure of the man. May that Illumination of which he is a part continue to shine and guide his friends and family.
He was a teacher through our friendship. He was authentic and unpretentious, yet humorously opinionated. He was a living example of how to live the Message in a conservative environment. His ready smile and laughter are missed.
Rachman invited me to attend a retreat he was hosting in Louisiana, where we became fast friends. He welcomed me into his home, and introduced me to my future wife. He was later given the name Aurelius, which was another perfect fit for him!. His shining light was an inspiration for the dedication, discipline, compassion, humility, generosity, and power he so manifested. I still miss Inayat.
