Dear Ones,
This weekend our dear friend Ashok died peacefully in his sleep. He never was one to cause much of a stir and always preferred to lead by example. He holds the record for the longest attendance at the Baraka Center, and attended the very first class that Zarifah taught in the fall of 1979. He attended almost every class, participated in every event and gave support whenever it was needed. At one time he had memorized the entire Gayan by Hazrat Inayat Khan.
We remember him riding his bicycle and greeting us with a HEY HOE!!!. He was also an artist, frequently creating things from found materials for indulging in a whimsical fantasy. We still remember the 4 foot long papier-mâché alligator he gave to us, which was placed in the Ivy bed near the road of the Baraka Center. It would engage small children going to school, squealing with delight as they noticed it’s furious and whimsical presence among the green leaves.
Sooner or later all of us must pass through the door that he has so gracefully gone through this weekend. It is a comfort to know that we can count on him being there when it’s our turn, always willing to offer his support.
We will miss you Ashok and will hold you in our hearts with deep love forever.
From his beloved wife, Winnie –
John Silverson had a stroke on 5 September, went to the hospital, returned to our retirement home to be on Hospice and died this morning, 21 September 2020.
It was absolutely painless – he died in his sleep. We all know we have to go, to die in our sleep is the best way to go.
All of his family members got to see him and have a short visit in his last days even though he couldn’t communicate very well.
Lots of support here at the retirement home.
Winnie
