Akbar touched me with his kindness and sincerity, his no-nonsense
“realness” and fealty to truth. As I said to him in a message I sent via
his daughter Sarah last month:
I am holding you in my heart, and in the light, with great appreciation
and respect for all the gifts of your being that you shared with us so
generously.
Akbar and his lovely wife Shirley were loving friends who shared their life with us for many years. They were gentle souls who enriched the lives of others with their warmth and compassion. Akbar as our Sufi guide was a gentle leader whose presence was the spirit of guidance. Their passing is a loss for all who knew them.
May Their Loving Memories Sustain The Family At This Time,

Welcome home Akbar
your time with us here in Seattle was precious little enough
fierce and gentle
friend
” To-night, a first movement, a pulse,
As if the rain in bogland gathered head
To slip and flood: a bog-burst,
A gash breaking open the ferny bed
. ….
No treaty
I foresee will salve completely your tracked
And stretchmarked body, the big pain
That leaves you raw, like opened ground, again”

Akbar will always be remembered by me as a gentle, kind and sweet person. There were many years when we were at the Corlett’s home first with Shirley, Akbar and Sara and later with Akbar and Sara. My children then knew them as a wonderful place to go as a family at the holidays watching the Christmas ships and having joyful community with other Sufis. Akbar you are joined by so many who welcome you into this new community. Sara, you are an amazing daughter who has cared so long and deeply for your parents. Please know how sorry I am for your loss. much love to you.
When I think of Akbar I remember the great light that shown from his eyes when he spoke of Pir-O-Murshid and the Sufi Message. He and his beloved wife, Shirley, graciously lent their home to many Sufi activities.
Akbar’s atmosphere conveyed the Divine Presence which is indicative of the Murshid that he was. I felt Pir Vilayat’s esteem for Akbar when he told me that I could give Akbar my full trust. It was an honor to know this great soul.
